Recently, Jio launched its so-called Remote Computer, which can only be accessed through a Jio Set-Top Box. Because apparently, using it on a PC or tablet doesn’t “make sense.”
Well, guess what — it doesn’t make sense to use it on your TV either.
Tell me one student, creator, or trader who wakes up in the morning and says:
“Today, I’ll use my 55-inch TV to finish my work!”
None. Absolutely none.
This is a classic example of a solution looking for a problem.
And from my tone, you can probably tell how frustrated I am that this product even exists.
So let’s dive deeper into this confusing creation called Jio PC.
What does “AI-ready” even mean anymore?
Every brand slaps the term AI on their products to sound futuristic. Jio is no exception.
Their website proudly mentions AI-ready PC — but provides no explanation whatsoever.
No examples, no specifications, nothing.
It’s just a fancy title thrown in to make it sound cutting-edge.
A marketing gimmick at best, and an empty promise at worst.
The Jio Remote PC runs on Ubuntu (Linux) with a Jio custom skin and a bunch of pre-installed apps.
So, let’s decode that: Jio took a free, open-source operating system, loaded it with unnecessary software, branded it, and built a subscription model around it.
Somewhere, Linus Torvalds probably shed a tear.
According to Jio, you’ll “never need repair or maintenance.”
Yeah, right. Because apparently, we fix our PCs daily.
But here’s the catch — if your Jio Set-Top Box fails, your so-called PC is useless.
You can’t access anything without it. That’s not reliability; that’s dependency — and it’s the worst kind of tech dependency.
This one made me laugh. “Forever secure”? Really?
Let me ask you this:
Would you hand over your login credentials, credit card details, and Demat account TPIN to a random device?
Because that’s what you’ll be doing here.
You’ll log in, sync your browser, and store your passwords — all inside a Jio ecosystem that’s fully dependent on network connectivity and cloud-based access.
If that sounds “forever secure” to you, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.
Anyone who’s even remotely serious about productivity already owns a laptop, desktop, or tablet.
Nobody — and I mean nobody — edits videos, codes, or writes reports on a 55-inch TV.
A TV is for watching shows, not for building spreadsheets.
Please, Jio — not everything needs to be turned into a computer.
Please, don’t fall for this marketing trick.
Jio PC is not a real PC — it’s a glorified remote desktop experience tied to a single hardware device.
It’s neither practical, nor efficient, nor safe.
If you genuinely want to work, learn, and create, invest in a proper laptop or desktop — or build your own PC.
You’ll thank yourself later.
In my next post, I’ll share a budget PC build guide that’ll make you ten times more productive than this so-called Jio PC — without locking you into anyone’s ecosystem.
Stay tuned.
