OnePlus Nord 5 Might Just Be the Best Device in This Price Range

OnePlus’s Nord line has always punched way above its weight—and this year, with the Nord 5, I think they've truly outdone themselves.

Design

Just looking at the Nord 5, you’d think it belongs in the flagship tier. Sleek finish, clean edges, good colour options—definitely one of the best-looking phones around at this price.

The downside? The body is plastic. Bummer. Doesn’t feel quite as premium as glass or metal, and it may show wear sooner. But honestly, since most of what you touch and see daily is screen/glass, the plastic back won’t kill the vibe if you pair it with good cover which luckily comes in the box.

Comparison with it's flagship:

Performance & Battery

Worrying about lag, heat, or stutter? Forget about it.

  • Chipset: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3
  • RAM & Storage: Up to 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM + 512 GB UFS 3.1 storage
  • Battery: 6,800 mAh (massive!)
  • Charging: 80 W SuperVOOC wired

So performance + efficiency are basically taken care of. As for gaming: high FPS is doable in many titles; maybe not maximum settings in every single game, but you’ll be close. Battery anxiety? Gone.

Display

The display is loaded:

  • 6.83″ AMOLED, ~1.5K resolution (2800×1272)
  • Up to 144 Hz refresh rate (60/90/120/144 Hz switching)
  • HDR support, 10-bit colour
  • Peak brightness ~1800 nits

Weakness: Outdoors under blazing sunlight, you may still squint a little. Not the brightest in class, but more than fine indoors and in most conditions.

Camera

The cameras is good but not best in the price range:

  • Rear: 50 MP Sony LYT-700 with OIS + EIS + 8 MP ultra-wide
  • Front: 50 MP (Samsung JN5) with 4K video

It may not beat flagships in zoom or ultrawide detail, but for day-to-day shots, it’s excellent.

And yes, 4K 30 vs 4K 60 fps debates exist, but let’s be real—most people won’t notice. The Nord 5 supports 4K 60 fps on the rear, and that’s plenty for vlogs or social content.

Software

Runs OxygenOS 15 on top of Android 15.

  • Updates: 4 years of major OS updates + 6 years of security updates
  • Packed with features & AI integrations
  • But… it isn’t as minimal as old OxygenOS. If you like clean, simple UI, this might feel cluttered.

Some love it, some hate it. I’m in the “meh, not a fan” camp—but hey, it works.

Service & Warranty

  • OnePlus improved their display warranty after the green-line fiasco (lifetime warranty on display for India "YAY").
  • Service isn’t the cheapest, but support is decent in most Indian cities.

Peace of mind check.

Price & Value

  • Starting Price (India): ₹31,999 (8 GB + 256 GB)
  • Higher variants go up to 12 GB + 512 GB.

At this price, it’s a killer deal. Most competitors can’t match the mix of battery + performance + display polish.

What’s Not So Great

  • Plastic body (not as premium as glass/metal)
  • Brightness is fine but not the brightest outdoors
  • Ultrawide + selfie cams are good, but not best in class
  • No wireless charging
  • No telephoto zoom

Verdict

If I were to summarise: OnePlus Nord 5 is a beast for its price.
Yes, there are compromises, but in return you get:

  • Flagship-level performance
  • Huge battery + fast charging
  • Great display
  • Pretty solid cameras

For ~₹30k–₹38k, that’s a package that’s hard to beat.

If you crave glass/metal bodies, wireless charging, or zoom cameras, you’ll have to spend more. For everyone else, Nord 5 is easily one of the best value buys in 2025.
